  • Missing Some Data Version 5.1

There doesn't appear to be any options available in a Quote Sheet for the symbol MRO using Version 5.1. Help.

    Thank you,

    'Tail.

    Tail,

I do seem to be getting an option chain on this symbol on cc-08.sc8. Which server are you seeing this problem on?

I'm on Continuum 2, and today I can get them, but many do not have Open Interests. The fields are blank. Also, SNDK is still having problems with that. Many Open Interest fields are blank using 5.1.

GOOG and HPQ are missing great numbers of Open Interests on their Quote Sheets in addition to SNDK in Version 5.1.

The month of Sept is also showing quite a few gaps in Open Interest in the options in V5.1. I'm trying to trade COO, NSM, BTU, GG, CROX. Each of these five are missing large numbers of Open Interests in their options. Trading options is difficult without this info. Please help. Thank you for a great program. It's the best on the market.

I'll check back in with the engineers to see if this is something that they can either fix or report to IDC RTS (Comstock) to fix.

              hardtaill,

I am a fan of Qcharts, too, but frankly I think you are
making a big mistake to use it to trade options. The
options data is notoriously incomplete and has been that
way for -many- years. To see the omissions, just pick your
favorite symbols and compare versus some end of day
chains from cboe.com or search this forum or the
previous yahoo QCharts forums for many discussions.

Hopefully, the transition to the apparently
more reliable ESignal feed will eliminate this glaring weak spot.

Thank you, finpress. You are correct on the problems with 5.1's options. I've noticed that CBOE has also had some problems and generally cannot be trusted during the day. And even later in the evening there are still problems with the CBOE as to some options not even opening when they actually have. One thing about 5.1 is that there is a 90% chance that the option data will be correct before the midnight reset. It's not always perfect, but is almost quite reliable. Why it takes six to eight hours for 5.1 to "catch up" is not understood by me at this time. You can easily tell when 5.1 has gotten caught up before midnight by the "opens" being displayed with the "tick" information NOT updating. An open will be present, but the tick will be blank. Try it tonight just before midnight Eastern.

To compensate, the Beta .16 is quite reliable if you have your Cleardown set to "Clear Fields" and Options and Indices NOT excluded. If you set those parameters after opening the program, and THEN bring in a new option chain and wait a few minutes for them to fill in as the ticks take place, then you have a good and reliable indication of correct option data.

A very, very good site to compare with is http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/options/

They reset before market open and have proven to be quite reliable.

                Thank you for your interest.

                'Tail.

Just to pick an option, consider the TXN Oct 35 calls (TXNJG).
QCharts (cc-06.sc8) shows last trade 1.95 at 13:04 (at current time 14:42).

The program I use for actual trading (my broker's)
shows last trade 1.91 at 14:38

This was the -first- symbol I picked to try a compare.

Waiting a couple minutes ... my broker's program now shows
last trade 1.86 at 14:43. Qcharts still shows the ancient
13:04 trade as the last one. A -huge- percentage of trades
                  are simply missed.

                  This is typical ...

I agree. During the day, it's pretty messed up. The Beta .16 has been a great relief for me to finally have Last, Volume, Open Interest, Yest, Open all pretty darn close. The only unreliable field, now, in the Beta, is "Tick". Maybe that will be fixed in the next version.

                      'Tail,

Not so good news on the Open Interest front. What is occurring is the open interest value is sent across the regular options feed at any point during the day. If there is packet dropped and that packet had the openInt data, then that value will be lost until the next point in which it is resent. As we know the options data on 5.1 has a large amount of data drops, so this is why the Open Interest is off on many options.

As has been discussed QCharts 6 will be the eventual fix for this problem.
                      Regards,
