    Hi, Bob,

In answer to all of your questions:

    1. The numbe of symbols I'm currently monitoring is 339.

    2. These symbols are high-trade. I'm an "overnight" trader
and do not trade anything with less than 1,000,000 shares a day.
I trade RIMM, GOOG, EBAY, SNDK, AAPL, and any other stock which
is reporting financials in the afterhours or the following
premarket times. Those types of stocks are very, very active.

    3. I have one monitor on each of my laptops. No additional.

    4. I'm running 12 charts and 14 portfolios along with
Time an Sales and Streaming News. I'm also running 5.1 at
the same time as 6.0.1.1 to double check Short Interest and
Price At Bid/Ask as well as other niceties that are not
    available on 6.0 yet.

If you'll check my previous posts you'll see screenshots from
    both laptops.

    Thank you,

    'Tail.

      Tail,

      Thanks for the response.

So, if I read you correctly, you are monitoring the 339 symbols in post and pre-market only which I think is possible. If you are trying to tell me that you are running 339 high trade symbols at market open and throughout the day - I just plain don't believe it.

Also, how do you run two laptops at a time?

      Thanks,

      ~Bob

Tail-that sounds like tons of work.

Bob and Larry, (and anyone else who may be able to help)-are we on consensus that it is not the processor that is the problem?

If thats the case, what might I do to go about fixing this so I can comfortably use qcharts 6 on my desktop?

Thanks for the help, its great to have a network of people who are working with the same platform, and who are willing to share their collective knowledge.

          Bob and Matt,

Please believe it. I am running both 5.1 and 6.0 during the day
and right up until close when I make my trades and today the
load was 339 symbols. Tomorrow it may be something different.
I'm sure that Jay and Mike can verify my server usage as to
          times and programs running.

I'm not using both laptops at the same time. I run one at home before
I leave and then my slow and old 1.1ghz when I get to work and trade
          at two minutes before close.

          Thank you,

          'Tail.

            Tail,

Possibly, you have an approach that might help others. If you think this applies, please feel free to either post your workspace in the eSignal images area or if you would prefer, you could send it directly to me.

            Thanks,

            ~Bob

              Bob,

Do you want the widescreen version or the 4x3?

                Tail,

If you could give me just give me what you use on your laptops that would be great.

                Thanks,

                ~Bob

                  Bob,

I've just emailed you one of my widescreen versions of my workspace.
I works fine during market hours and with 5.1 running as well.

                  Thank you,

                  'Tail.

                    Matthew,

Your box tolerates your workspace OK running 5.1, but not 6.0. We have to deal with the reality of your box. Don't get distracted with reports regarding magic computers from alternate universes.

As mentioned before, it's a fact that QC6 chews up more %cpu than 5.1 for two reasons.
                    1. An increased flow of ticks/sec in QC6 from the eSignal feed.
                    2. An issue of significant processing inefficiencies in QC6 at this time.

One option is to get a box with more horsepower to compensate.

The other is to do what I and other's have done. And that's to cut down your workspace regarding the load it places on QCharts. I would recommend just starting over, put up initially minimal charts and quotesheets, observe how that works, and then slowly, over time, add until your box will no longer tolerate the loads.

There is always the need to observe the %cpu being consumed by all tasks running, to make sure you don't have other processes that are problematic. And also to make sure there's no RAM problems. I've seen a couple of times in working cases off-list a certain anti-virus program gobbling up 800MB all by itself, as one example. To this end, I highly recommend that you get TaskInfo system monitor. I'll be happy to discuss usage and configuration off-list. There's nothing in it for me regarding anyone getting TaskInfo, no affiliation. I just find the program invaluable in observing my box.

No need to even think about magic computers from alternate universes. No need to even discuss them. Any computer on the market today should be handling 6.0 with the same number of symbols and charts as 5.1, and, up to your symbol limits. After all, my 1.1ghz is really pretty ancient with a floppy drive and the USB ports are 1.0 in speed. 6.0 is a concern to some degree because of the processor loads, but should have little impact on your ability to use a vigorous desktop with which to trade. 6.0 is a vast improvement over 5.1 and is extremely accurate. I enjoy using it. The only reason I'm still using 5.1 is for some data that is not yet available in the 6.xs. That is why I run both at the same time. I use, on average, 360 to 390 symbols on both platforms running concurrently and the workspace that I use for options is even more taxing on the processor than the others. When I switched to 6.0, I merely copied the workspace over to it and limited my symbols to 500.

Bob, I've already emailed Larry several platforms that I use on 6.0, both wide and 4x3, and I am going to email you as well your request for the 4x3 version which I use most often for the last 1 to 2 hours of trading each day.

                      I will email shortly.

                      'Tail.

                        Bobscott,

just checking in to see how your 6.0.1.1 is working during the day. I'm still using both 6.0 and 5.1 at the same time and I'm having no trouble trading with 6.0 during the day, and up to and including closing trading, even on my 1.1ghz. My average symbol count is still
                        around 390 and higher.

Haven't heard from you since I emailed you my workspaces.

                          'Tail,

I really hate people using aliases so I will refer to you as Greg from now on.

Larry Marchman and I are in the middle of an evaluation and we will share the results with everyone when it is complete.

                          Best regards,

                          ~Bob

Tail, will you send me your workspace so I can see if its my cpu or my workspace layout thats giving me troubles?
