  • Anticipated Miami Network Shutdown

The following notice is being sent to all QCharts subscribers this evening. I thought I'd post this ahead of time to the community to give you a little extra notice. In addition, I've created this thread to discuss this announcement.

    **********************
    Dear QCharts Subscriber:

As you likely know, we released QCharts 6.0 in September 2007. This new version of QCharts brings together the strengths of the eSignal network architecture and QCharts’ powerful application interface, as well as Forex and other global equity and futures markets.

QCharts 6.0 and the eSignal Network
Launching QCharts 6.0 is only the first step in transitioning the QCharts product line to the eSignal network. We continue to move many of QCharts’ unique data features over to the eSignal network, such as Hot Lists, Breadthalizer symbols and the extended historical intraday data.

The next version of QCharts will bring all these features together into one complete QCharts package running entirely off the eSignal network, as well as offer further data enhancements and performance improvements.

What Will Happen during the Transition
For those clients who have joined the online QCharts community at eSignal Central Forums, you may have seen that we are planning to discontinue the older QCharts data network. The first step in this process will take place on December 28, 2007 with the shutdown of the server farm in Miami, Florida. The facility in Santa Clara, California will continue to operate, and we will be adding additional servers to that location.

Our Recommendations for a Smooth Transition
As a result of the Miami shutdown, only one data network will be available for older QCharts versions (i.e., 5.1 and older), Because of this, we strongly encourage all QCharts users to download the latest version of QCharts 6.0 (version 6.0.1.2), which connects to the eSignal network and will ensure uninterrupted service in the event of a severe network outage at our Santa Clara facility.

We acknowledge that some QCharts users may prefer to remain on the older Continuum data network until its eventual discontinuation in 2008. However, all users should still download QCharts 6.0 as a back-up.

We also understand that some advanced QCharts users choose to connect directly to the Miami data network because of its shorter route to network servers.

While a data connection across the country and the notion of having only one Continuum data farm may seem of concern, please know that the eSignal data network has nine different co-locations to ensure that your QCharts 6.0 connection is the best it can be.

Your QCharts experience is important to us. Everyday, we continue to improve the product and are dedicated to providing a financial decision support workstation that you can count on.

    ...

    Sincerely,
    Jay Frank
    QCharts Product Manager
    Regards,
