layout file format

Hello.
I have 2 layout (.qcl) files (both contain custom drawn lines) and would like to merge certain lines from one into the other. As best I can tell there is no way to do this with the current tools.

Is the layout file format available so I could write my own merge utility? I believe such a tool could also help the people moving from 5.1 style to 6.0 style indices (NDX.X -> $NDX).

Since there seems to be no forthcoming file format specification, is there any way to extract the lines I've drawn on my charts or am I locked in? I'd be content with a text file output at this point.

I'm interested if you dive into this and solve it... I have experimented in the past with a worksheet and a hex editor, but I couldn't find a pattern to the line data in the workspace files... I probably could have kept trying by saving off a chart layout file, but I didn't pursue it...
