  • Bad intraday charts for merged symbol

I have started having problems with charts whose time interval is less than 1 day -- 233, 55, 34, 21, 5 minute charts.

I have a merged symbol for HESS in CompSyms.znf

    HES ; NYSE:HES ; - ; NYSE:HES ; NYSE:AHC NYSE:HES
    _HES ; NYSE:_HES ; Hess Cp (Unmerged) ; NYSE:HES ; NYSE:HES

If I display HES, I see very strange results for intraday charts

If I display _HES, the unmerged symbol, the intraday charts are fine.

I have images but they are too large to attach.

The problem started about 2 weeks ago. I thought it was a problem with the servers but it hasn't corrected itself yet.

    I am using Qcharts 5.0.1.21

    Hi Eric,

Delete the HES statement in your ZNF.
    HES ; NYSE:HES ; - ; NYSE:HES ; NYSE:AHC NYSE:HES

You can leave the _HES if you wish.

That particular form of merge in your ZNF is causing AHC trades to appear when they have a higher volume at any point in time. AHC is now Aluminum Corp China. With two syms merged that way, whichever sym has the highest volume "wins".

There is another form of merge in the system supplied CompSyms2.inf that makes the merge date specific, with no "higher volume wins" issue.

    HES ; NYSE:HES ; Hess Cp ; NYSE:HES ; DT(#NYSE:HES|05/09/2006|-) DT(#NYSE:AHC|-|05/08/2006)

With a given symbol in both the CompSyms2.inf and CompSyms.ZNF, the ZNF "wins". <grin>

BTW, making screenshots using format .GIF or .PNG will result in much much smaller file sizes without loss of clarity (for all practical purposes).
