  • esignal data manager and DDE link 2 excell

    Hi,

I've read in the help file of the esignal data manager that it could act as a DDE server.
We can use excell as a client to get quotes directly.

    My question is :
Can you send a spreadsheet example with the DDE settings already done, and a few explanation on how to use it.

    thanks in advance.

    Hi Symphonie,

A sample Excel spreadsheet is included with your eSignal program installation.

Please select your windows "Start" button, then select the "All Programs" option and locate the eSignal submenu.

"Excel Sample" should be one of the available options.

      ShaheedM,

Is there an spreadsheet for QCharts users? There is no eSignal Start menu item for us.

Could you post it here on the forum?

      Thanks,
      T

Attached is a zip file that contains the Excel sample file that is installed by eSignal.
The Data Manager needs to be running prior to opening the Excel sample file. When the file opens click Enable Macros.

            Tom or Alex -
I'm trying to open the Excel sample sigtools.xla and not having much success.

I have extracted it, reset my security setting to accept, enabled macros - and still it does not open.

I thought maybe being labeled "xla" instead of "xls" could be the problem, so I've tried renaming (in another folder) and that will not open, either.

I haven't had coffee yet this morning, so please forgive my blunders.

What are you guys doing to get it to open?
            Thanks for your help.

I decided to keep clicking and trying - well, I get an error message that the DM is not found - but, 6.0 is clearly running and the DM says "System performing normally."

              Any ideas appreciated.
              Thanks,

                You are most welcome

                Carol
At my end I can open it by either clicking the Excel Sample link in the Start->Programs->eSignal menu or double clicking the file itself which is in the eSignal directory

                  Hi Alex,

I am just now getting around to trying this spreadsheet and I am getting the same error as Carol. Apparently it is failing on the following line: .DDEInitiate("winros", "high"). Windows offers to run winros on the call to Application.DDEInitiate and then fails if the user tries it. Apparently winros isn't a visible DDE object for Excel.

Any ideas how to correct this?

                  Thanks,
                  Tom

I do not know why it is not working at your end (or Carol's) and at this time I do not have available a computer that does not have eSignal installed so as to replicate the same conditions. At my end it appears to be working also if I move the Excel file in the QCharts folder and use the Data Manager that is installed with QCharts. As I said though I do have eSignal installed on all my computers so that may be the reason.
If I find something out I will post it to this thread
                    Alex

I have eSignal10.0 installed as well, yet it doesn't work here.

                      fyi,

If you have eSignal installed then try using the Excel Sample link which is in Start-> Programs-> eSignal. That should point to the Excel file that is in your eSignal directory. Remember to launch the Data Manager (using the link in the same menu group) prior to opening the Excel Sample
FYI that is working fine at my end

                              Hey Alex,

                              Well, phooey and all that.
I can't figure out the difference in your experience and mine/Carol/Tom's.

I've put the sample XLA here, there, and everywhere. Used the "new sample" XLS. No joy.

                              Hummm...I just dunno whazzup.
