Howdy All,
It's time to discontinue using QFAI.
QCharts 6.1 renders most of what QFAI was designed to assist the user with essentially moot.
Here's a few reasons, fwiw, for anyone interested.
1. There is no server switching or selecting in QCharts 6 since the data comes from the eSignal data network rather than the Quote.com "continuum" network.
Note: The plug will be pulled on the continuum datafeed servers Oct 26, 2009 and QCharts 5.1(and prior versions) will no longer run at all, and 6.0 will lose certain functions, like Breadthalizers and Hot Lists.
2. There is a new CorpActs splits file that comes from the eSignal network. This file has a different format than the legacy splits file. This new format is not compatible with the legacy splits file, either the one that's obtained from the continuum servers or the one that Bob Scott has been supplying via the QFAI "UNF" option.
3. The eSignal data servers are not directly ping-able, rendering the "pinger" in QFAI of no value.
4. The delete CorpActs, MktHours, and Temp folder options no longer have functional value.
Many thanks to Bob Scott who has tirelessly been providing an alternate CorpActs splits file that was much richer in content than the system supplied splits file, especially regarding small cap exchange BB splits.
Bob has ceased updating CorpActs.UNF as of August 22. If you continue to use QFAI with the CorpActs UNF option on, you will see this message (attached screenshot) from QFAI on or about Sept 5. It's a message that's been in the code since day 1, to signify no UNF update activity. This will serve as a reminder it's time to say good bye to QFAI.
So, how does one uninstall QFAI?
Simply delete your QFAI folder manually.
On your "Start QFAI" icon, a R-click>Properties>Find Target will open Explorer to your QFAI folder.
QFAI does not use Control Panel Add/Remove Programs for uninstalling.
Delete the QFAI start icon from your Desktop, or wherever you have it.
If you no longer have "start QCharts" icons since you have been using the QFAI program catalog, you need to create them manually.
Just go to your QCharts folders, r-click on QCharts.exe, and use the "create shortcut" item in the r-click menu.
Rename the shortcut to something meaningful to you and move the shortcut wherever you wish it to be.
And finally, and VERY importantly, all copies of CorpActs.UNF must be deleted from all copies of QCharts that you have.
You can use the R-click>Properties>Find Target on your "Start QCharts" icons technique to get to your QCharts directories to do the CorpActs.UNF delete.
Alternatively, to be really sure you got all of 'em, just do a search of your hard drive for CorpActs.UNF to get a list of them all, and then delete from the search results window.
If you haven't moved to QCharts 6.1 as yet, now is the time to do that.
6.1 Beta forum..
And I strongly recommend that you go to Bill Bledsoe's website. He has done a LOT of work creating QCharts 6 information.
