  • Book value per share -- grossly wrong

I was looking at a few money mgr stocks today, for example,

Legg Mason (LM). From their filings and
    also yahoo finance,http://finance.yahoo.com/q/ks?s=LM
the Book Value per share is on the order of $30.
    Qcharts shows $0.51

This does not seem to be an isolated problem.
    Affiliated Managers Group Inc. (AMG).
Yahoo Book value per share: $26
    Qcharts: $1.51

    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    alan

Checking some others, I will guess this data field is
not supported and filled with pretty much nonsense:

    Book Value Per Share:
    Ticker / QCharts / Yahoo Finance(Capital IQ)
    CVX 1.71 43.85
    DIS 1.73 18.85
    TXN 2.12 7.30
    HPQ 2.37 17.49
    GOOG 3.43 106.55
    IBM 8.37 13.94

Suggestion: at a minimum, all unsupported data fields should
be *cleared out* (the data, not the heading, assuming they
are on somebody's todo list). Even better, please support this particular item!

Also, a list of such currently unsupported (but on a todo list) fields might be helpful --
a heads-up for which items should not currently be relied upon.

QCharts is incorrectly displaying "Price to Book" data for the "Book Val/Share" column.

Per Project Management, they'll try to have the field renamed "Price to Book" when QCharts 6.2 is released (possibly Dec).

Unfortunately "Book Val/Share" data isn't available and will not be available when 6.2 is released.

I've submitted that as a suggstion as something to create in the future.

I see -- thanks for the reply.

Well, Book Value is a static item,
detrmined once a quarter. Now Price changes
from trade to trade. So, for Price to Book to be
of any use, it should dynamically update with
each trade. But, since the field does *not* update,
this says the Price being used in the Price to Book value
ratio is both static and old. Given all that,
the field is really quite useless, IMO.

On the other hand Book Value Per Share is
quite useful for certain types of companies, so
I hope this can be supported at some point
        as per your suggestion.
