  • CAGC split 2:1 on Feb 8, 2010

CAGC split 2:1 yesterday - the charts show it as a $14 gap down, and the Snapshot Bar indicates it closed UP $1.20.

I have edited the CorpActs.inf; renamed it CorpActs.UNF and inserted the .UNF while deleting the .inf; rebooted QC multiple times last night and this morning, yet, it is not being picked up.

Could someone please correct the file.
    Thanks,
    Carol

    CK,

With the advent of QCharts 6.1, the CorpActs splits file scheme was changed in QCharts. They started using the eSignal splits file...CorpActs.tab, which lives in the SigText folder. As part of this change in QCharts, the CorpActs.UNF over-ride no longer works. Thankfully, MktHours.UNF still works.

There is a way to locally apply a split to QCharts, but it's a somewhat labor intensive PITA.
For the record, here's the procedure...

    1. With QCharts not running at all, start Data Manager standalone.
That's winros.exe in the main QCharts directory where QCharts.exe lives.
    2. Open SigText subdirectory.
    3. Open CorpActs.TAB in Notepad (and Notepad only).
    4. Add split and save file back into SigText folder.
    5. Start QCharts (QCharts.exe)
    6. QCharts.exe, as part of initialization, will "copy" the newly updated QCharts.tab in SigText into the main directory as QCharts.INF.
    7. Should now be good to go.

    Caveats:
    1. When DM is shut down, upon next start of DM, a new CorpActs.tab will be downloaded if one is detected on the servers with a newer date that the one currently existing in SigText. CorpActs.tab on the servers is updated at least a couple of times a day it seems. This DM download will wipe out any local mod made previously. So, one will have to reapply the local mod per above procedure.
    2. The split ratios are reversed from what one would logically think.
A two-for-one split is coded 1/2, rather than the old QCharts coding of 2/1.
    3. The split date must be the most recent trading day "before" the stock starts trading at the new adjusted price.
For example, the coding for your CAGC is...

    20100205
    NASD:CAGC,1/2

    4. The split "note" on the chart is on the date entered into the TAB.

Thanks, Larry - I've got the split painting properly now. The "2:1" designation does not paint, but at least the candles are proper.

      Question for Jay,
Perhaps the "automated notification procedure" needs to be checked again?

      Thanks,
      Carol
