  • [Split] $TICK

    Hi,

I have been living with this problem for a few weeks now but now it is unbearable.

I use $TICK as a major part of my analysis.

However, the data has just become a joke lately.

I have always found it slightly inaccurate during the day when compared to mytrack.

However a far worse problem is the DAILY TABULAR BAR WINDOW. When I look at that on a daily timeframe or DDE link it into excel as DAILY HIGH, LOW CLOSE, all the figures are the same for each day.

I enclose a screenshot of the last few days data.

Can you please, please, please correct this or give me a workaround solution. I need the ability to be able to look back at previous days and see TICK HIGH, LOW and CLOSE.

Look forward to your prompt reply as always.

    Thanks.

    Hey K,

In 6.0 (and eSignal, btw), the Daily chart bars only carry close.

As a work around, you could use INTV=390. This will give you the ticks from 9:30:00 to 16:00:00. The close will be different than the daily since the daily incorporates values thru 16:15.

Review T&S from 16:00 till it quits. Consider whether or not a 16:00 value, at the market close, might reflect an OK value for your purposes. After market close at 16:00, as volume drops to a relative nil, are those ticks truly reflective of the broader market action occurring going into the close at 16:00?

      Dear Larry,

Firstly many thanks for your prompt reply. Fully agree TICK is meaningless when RTH (Real Time Hours) CASH indices close. 9.30 - 15.59 is absolutely fine.

Yes and that solution seems fine on time and sales, so thanks for that.

However I really need it on EXCEL via a DDE link and I just cannot get it to work with 390 as an interval on that. How strange is that? I would have thought interval on time and sales and DDE link should be 100% the same?

      I was using ....

      =QLink|Bars!'$TICK,D,950,DHLC'

and now changed it to ....

      =QLink|Bars!'$TICK,390,950,DHLC'

However it now has two entries for each day in excel. I just want one entry as you can understand.

Any help appreciated. Thanks my friend.

      Regards,

      K

        Hey K,

Sorry, but I don't speak QLink. Just never got around to exploring it. Don't have it installed.

Any QLinker reading this thread have suggestions?

Many thanks Larry for taking the time to help.

Come on guys or any QCHARTS personnel, anyone know how QLINK could get me daily date, high, low & close for TICK or do I need to post this in a separate thread?

          Regards,

          K

Looks like Larry's suggestion works fine in QLink too. See attached.

              Hi JayF,

              Thankyou for your reply.

How strange is this. I have been using Qlink for years now without any issues.

However I just cannot get this to work with this TICK suggestion of 390 min.

I have typed it in 5 times just now into Excel both manually and using the Qlink Toolbar Wizard.

Everytime it comes out like this with one proper entry for each date and then a few rogue ones.

I have double checked what I am typing in and even asked my wife to watch me type it in incase I am making a silly error.

I know you included 'open' in your example but it makes no difference with or without to the problem.
This is what I get ...

Any suggestions please would be very appreciated as this is holding me back.

              Thanks and regards.

              Regards,

              K

Looks to me like you don't have the intraday hours setup right. Try copying and pasting this command into Excel and use Ctrl-Shift-Enter to fill the array.

                =QLink|Bars!'$TICK,390,100,DOHLC,HEADERS,09:30-16:00'
                Regards,

Trust me Jay, its definitely typed in right as I used the Qlink bar to create it and tried it manually also.

However to avoid all doubt I cut and pasted exactly what you typed and its still exactly the same with one real entry and then a couple of ) entries for each date.

Totally baffled here and I am sure the answer is a logical one, but I cannot see it.

                  Any further idea's?

Many thanks Larry and fully agree.

JayF, is it possible you could move the posts from this thread (discussion on TICK) to the Qlink forum as above.

                      Thanks.
