  • Real-Time Forex Data into TS2k via GlobalServer

    Dear All,
Has anybody managed to get real-time FX data of the format
    EUR A0-FX
    to update in real-time.
I have been able to download history for all currencies but they refuse to update in real-time.

I list all currencies as XXX A0-FX
I am showing "connected" in Globalserver
I am using FOREX as my exchange.

I see mention of CFOREX but I do not have this one listed, do I need to add it? if so does anybody have details of settings?
How do I bring up a chart based on Bid or Ask rather than Last price? Thought this is worth trying as FX data obviously all bid and ask.

If I find a solution I promise to post a very clear description for anybody who has this problem in the future to follow as it has been very frustrating trying to sort it out.

I have futures data working fine.

    Fingers are now crossed.

Yes without any problems. Brief instructions follow below

I see mention of CFOREX but I do not have this one listed, do I need to add it?

No you do not. Some versions of TS2k will show FOREX as the exchange and others will have CFOREX. Use whichever you show listed.

Here is what you need to do.
Make sure that you have at least the following setup in the Plugin for Forex Category (you can add Bid Record 1 Tick if you wish but it is not required)

In GlobalServer make sure you have at least the following settings in History to Save

Once you are are Online and Connected and have completed your download(s) create a chart with settings similar to the ones shown in the next image. Notice that even though I am using 1 minute Intraday Compression the Field is set to Ask Record.

The resulting chart will update in real time. Notice that in the Title bar of the chart it states it is ASK-1 min

FYI you can also plot charts based on Trade Record but they will not update in real time.
    Hope this helps
    Alex

      Real time FX

      Alexis,
Thankyou very much, I now have the intraday charts updating in realtime.
      Great!
Can ask tick data and daily trade data be combined? Assuming not, so therefore if I want a longer term chart realtime I just need to download massive amount of tick data??
      Thanks again

As far as I know Ask and Trade Records cannot be combined.
With regards to longer term charts you can download up to 120 days worth of intraday data.

          FX realtime

          Alexis,
I find the realtime updating very flickery, is this just one of the side effects of using globalserver to display esignal data in T2K or is there a way to cure it?
Other than the flicker everything else now works perfectly. Thanks.
          Regards
          Tony

With what symbols are you seeing the flicker?

                Dear All,

I am having the same problem as twalker had in the beginning, however I still can not fix it. My daily and intraday charts are not updating in real-time and seem to have gaps in them. I have tried the intrustions posted by Alexis however my problem still persists.

Attached is zipped word-document with all my screen shots. (file size too big, will try to attach them later)

                Thank you very much

                          Tony
It is somewhat strange that it is happening with Forex instruments and is certainly not what I am seeing in my install. As a matter of fact it is so stable I sometimes have to really focus on the chart to actually make sure it is updating in real time.
Anyhow you may want to do some cleaning up of the database. First try Run Nightly Maintenance under Tools in the main menu of GlobalServer. If the flickering persists you may want to read Backing up folders and Reducing data file size both available here
Even if you will not be deleting any data the actions outlined in the Reducing data file size document will offer the benefit of compacting Globalserver's database which does get fragmented over time.
                          Hope this helps

In the mean time here are a few comments on the images you posted.
forex1.doc - With regards to the empty daily chart that would suggest to me that you do not have 1 Minute, 5 Minute or 1 Day data for Trade Record in GlobalServer. Have you checked if there is any? (see in Edit Symbol window and Edit Data tab)
forex2.doc - You don't need to have 5 Minute Ask Record as that cannot be downloaded from eSignal. 1 or 5 Minute and 1 Day resolutions are only for Trade Records
Also the settings for the Euro appear to be wrong. The ones I am seeing in your document seem to be the old settings for equities (for example Min Movement is 125.000 which corresponds to 1/8th). The Session Settings also do not correspond to those of Forex unless you have specifically set them to the trading hours of the equities market.
Following below are the settings I have for Forex issues.
Lastly you may want to provide a bit more information regarding your installation ie what version of eSignal is installed (if any), what version of the ActiveX Plugin, OS, whether you have run the Setup Wizard, etc
                            Alex

Thanks for your response Alexis, I will try and set up your settings and post the results when I have finished.
