  • Contract Lookup: Failed to Retrieve IB Data

    Hi,

I'd like to re-sync my ZN (10-Year Note) Continuous Contract chart with Interactive Broker. Unfortunately, when I type in the following information in Symbol Mapping: ZN for Underlying, Future for Security Type, ECBOT for Exchange, eSignal or its plug-in keeps searching with no answer returned.

    See snapshot for fact.

Thanks very much for your help.

    Raphael

PS: IB Symbol equates Exchange Symbol, by the way.

Please make sure that there is no space after the "N", I just ran the search and it appears to work.

      Problem still present

      Hi Avery,

Good to read you again. In fact, I haven't put any spacing. I'm still unable to retrieve IB information. I'm running Windows XP, by the way.

Thanks for your answer. Good day,

      Raphael

        Raphaele,

Are you able to map other symbols?

Have you tried using the All Exchanges to see if you get any results that way?

          GOOD

          Morning Avery,

your proposed solution did good. I must choose "ALL" for Exchange. Thanks for your great and proven technical support.

          Have a great day,

          Raphael

              Symbol mapping non US markets

This is more an FYI for symbol mapping.
(I hope v11 will have chart trading otherwise bye bye esignal ...I am sure it will????)

Currently I am in Australia trading on the ASX using IB-TWS and Esignal for my charting.
When trying to symbol map, there is a slight bug/lag that is really painful.
              Basically I go....

Trade >> Interactive brokers >>Symbol Mapping
Add >> type in name of the stock in the create new symbol box...WITHOUT the exchange
(If I use the exchange eg; TLS-ASX nothing happens)

              Hit OK.

Then I need to manually type in the exchange code. This is -ASX.
Ideally if the real symbol is TLS-ASX, then I would think its easier to type it once, OR have it automatically added when you select it from the list.

              thanks.

                Adina,

Thank you for the post, the symbol mapping can be a little cumbersome with each of the brokers having there own symbol format (TLS-ASX verse TLS-408163-STK+AUD:ASX) none matching eSignal. We're continuing to look into ways to automate the process but have not come up with a solution that would works for all the brokers.

"Trading from the Charts" will be added to eSignal 11.2 coming in early Q2-2011. I hope you'll hang on until then, with the new Money Management Planner This tool will enable you to set an unlimited number of pre-defined stop and profit targets that are automatically sent to your broker once a position is opened. It's a good feature I'm sure you'll like.

Once again thanks for the post.

Thank you so much for this little piece of news. As well as the bells and whistles, will you please make sure they include the basics, such as returning fill and exit confirmation and price? Would prefer the basics first, then the improvements.

Best news I've had in some time.

                  Cheers

                    Hi,
                    (as feedback)
I will hang in there as I have some faith and I have other things to work on in the meantime!

It appears to me that there is a lot of requesting from various users to export/import various items and data.
All the best systems I have used from Bloomberg down (and I dont think BB is that great :
The best have great compatibility with excel as then its easy to manipulate columns of data. Most of the larger broking houses run everything off excel....its scary but it works, is stable and more importantly everyone finds it easy to work with.
Additionally brokers like IB have great links with excel.
Currently I export data to excel, manipulate it and then send info to IB. It would be great to be able to do many things directly from the charting platform such as ESignal and the new money manger looks like it might do the trick.
As an aside.... too many systems appear to offer solutions to the traders who trade only a few instruments - and not enough thought is given to those who trade multiple markets OR wish to scan/trade/manage a lot of instruments.....hence the Excel link.
I plan to upload v11 next week to have a look an I look forward to viewing the money mger, and new watch lists (which I currently have to use excel for!)
                    thanks.
