  • Sizes on the order book for very liquid US stocks?

Curious to know what would be considered a large order to place for a stock?

I read somewhere that 5000 shares at a time is a large order (£50/pt for spreadbetting).

What if a stock has an average daily volume of 500K-750K? Is 5000 still considered large? In relative % terms, it's not very much.

    Hi John,

5000 shares equates to a one-half block trade. In the event a stock has a 500K average daily volume, a position of that size would equal 1% of the total daily volume. Most prop traders I work with tend not to hold more than 1% of the average daily volume as it makes exiting the position a little more complex.
