  • Spreads charting

I am trying to find the way in which i can chart out
    spreads and cracks.
    For example
I want to chart the spread between

    cl n3 and cl q3 (formula is cl n3 - cl q3)

and also i want to chart the spread between
    ng n3 and jm n3 (formula is jm n3 / ng n3)

is there a simple way to do that...

If you have an open Advanced Chart slected just type the following
    cl n3 -cl q3
and press <Enter> or Click OK. Please note that there is a space before the operator (minus sign in this example) and none after.
The resulting chart will be a Close Line only (see image)

For the other example you mention the symbol structure is the same
    jm n3 /ng n3
If you want you can also apply a weight to either or both the symbols. Just type a number infront of the symbol. For example
    100IBM /0.5$SPX
    Hope this helps

      Spread charts

I attempted to enter the spread symbol as you indicated:

      cl n3 -cl q3

Tried it several times, eyeballing it closely...

Kept getting an "invalid symbol" pop-up.

Do you specifically need the futures package to do this? I only have the basic package with delayed quotes

      Thanks,

If you are doing this with 7.4 beta there is a bug that will give you an invalid symbol when typing a spread. However, if one then clicks OK at the error message the spread plots without any problems.
If instead you are using another version of the software have you tried setting up a spread using different symbols (ie that are available to the Basic package)?

          Spreads

          Alex-

          Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, I still don't seem able to make it work.

Clicking on the "OK" doesn't work, and I have been using symbols that are available individually on the Advanced Chart.

If I can make it work... this is exactly what I need!

Glad to see it addressed here. I am sure I will get it working somehow.

Where exactly are you typing in this spread?
Are you by chance entering it into the symbol dropdown window?
If yes that will not work.
Create a new chart (any symbol) then select it and just begin typing the first symbol of the spread.
This should bring up the Symbol dialog box. Continue to type the remainder of the spread and click OK or press <Enter>
Let me know if this works
