  • Elder Triple Screen

I am looking for eSignal users (including efs users) of Dr. Elder's Triple Screen trading method. My understanding is that it can be applied to all time periods, and he is still using and endorsing it, many years after it was first published. I would like to try and establish a dialog with here with such users. Personally, I am a short-term trader of stock index futures (eMini).
    Thanks

    Replying to self ....

Well, perhaps there are not that many in this forum interested in the Elder Triple Screen system. I have been busy coding EFS to implement this concept and today came across the article by Joe diNapoli on the eSignal website. His system is pretty much the same, buying on a pullback in an uptrend, and vice versa. He uses two of this own indicators, a modified MACD and a modified Stochastic (also supplied in the eSignal EFS package). But the principle is the same.

I am still looking for others with whom to discuss such a system for short-term trading of eMini futures contracts: matters such as what are the most appropriate timeframes, the best (longer-term) trend-following indicator, the best (shorter term) momentum indicator, etc, the values for the indicators, etc.

I am currently working with a longer-term of 60 min chart, trend determined by 13 period EMA..by not less than two successive higher closing values.

If in a trend(either up or down), this info is retrieved from the global variable pool by a second EFS on a 5 minute chart, which uses Slow Stohastic (5,3,3) to identify overbought/oversold position, and buy or sell, as appropriate. A trailing BUY(SELL) STOP is issued based on the high(low) of the two most recent bars.

    All replies welcome.

IMHO you are making a simple issue little too big.

Did you ever tried EXTENSIVELY what is already provided by Tom Joseph in the XTL ? Have you tried - just as a try- the autoxtl.efs?

I have attached a zipfile of 4 EFS files; the first does longer term trend identification, the second (shorter term) does re-tracementas based on Stochastic.

You need to run the longer-tem one on say, 60 minute chart, and the second one on a shorter one of your chosing (5,10,12 minutes, etc.) to identify retracements within the trend, and issue BUY/SELL signals.

There are - unfortunately - two "pairs" of files, one pair for S&P eMini (ticker ES #F) and one pair for NASDAQ eMini (NQ #F).
I have not yet figured out how to place variables in the global variable pool (as opposed to literals), and so do with ony one EFS per time period
