  • Minimum account req's to use API.

I currently have an eSignal Premier account running on one machine and want to run my custom app (using the eSignal ActiveX API) on another machine. Can I simply add the API to my *existing* account and use the API on one machine (without running eSignal/winsig.exe) and use esignal/winsig.exe on the other machine?

Or do I need an add'l account to run the API on the second machine? If so, what is most basic account that I can add the API to? I only Dow/Nasdaq/S&P500 indices as well as NYSE, NASDAQ L1 and AMEX. I'd only look at about 10 symbols total. Can I get an eSignal Basic Equities account with the API added on or do I need to pony up for a fancier one?

If I need a new account, can I just install the Turbofeed Mgr or do I need to install the full eSignal 7.5?

Lastly, if I add a new account and don't like the API, do I get a refund on the API and startup fee? I know at one point there was a way to get the startup fee waived. Is this still available?

    Thanks, Drew (esignal account: axiswest)

A second account would be needed. The exchanges qualify this as needing another account, because more than 1 PC is receiving data. Any eSignal account will work with the Active API, so the eSignal Basic account is the lowest (as low as $49/mo.)

I tried to add a BASIC account but the API is not available with it. I called Cust Svc and they say I need a Premier ($100+/month) account for the API and the API would not work with the BASIC account. Boo. This reeks of a bait & switch.

I see no technical reason why the API wouldn't work with ANY account. I do not want charts or graphs or anything. I just want RT data for my app (only 1-5 symbols total!!) via the API so the simplest account. Please advise.

This is certainly all my fault and I apologize. I was under the impression that all products allow the eSignal Desktop API to be added, but I was made aware this morning that this is not the case. To clarify, eSignal Basic does not currently allow this, so the minimum account would be eSignal Premier. In the future, we will be revisiting the eSignal Basic package to see if we can change it to include the ActiveX product.

Again, my apologies, and please know that it was not my intention to mislead in any way.

        Sincerely,
        Jay F.

My vote (if I get one) is to allow it on the basic package as well. I don't use the eSignal client app at all (though I do keep a small quote window open since it has to be running anyway to use the API). And, I never watch more than 6 symbols at a time, so I certainly don't see myself as a huge bandwidth drain.

            mini account to use API

I have a same situation, which has stopped me from using ActiveX API since you ended up paying $107/month in order to just getting some basic data.

This fee is charged on top of $20/month API fee.

            Ridiculous !

So if I've have signed up for ESignal Basic instead, what would I have to do to get access to the ActiveX SDK? Who do I email, call etc?

Does anyone know what it would cost to try the ActiveX SDK?

For me all I care is that it works reliably and fast enough for my application (which works with 10-40 symbols every 1-3 minutes) and the only way for me to determine this is to try it.

You can sign up for the Desktop API (or Active X Development) via your customer maintenance page, or call and talk to one of our sales representatives.
