    Hi Guys:

I am an SI lurker who has been interested in the discussion you have been having regarding the Boots indicators. I downloaded everything into my eSignal but the 3 efs indicators are blank.

Is there something I may be missing?

Thanks for sharing this with us Boots

        Hi Laser Trader

Glad to hear you have it up and working.

I do need to give one small warning here about the indicators that I am sure you will soon find out. I am no genius when it comes to Java so the code is a little sloppy. You will find that the current or last bar on the color bars is often the wrong color during the formation of that bar. Once the bar is completed I have not had any trouble.

Maybe some smart fellow like Loomis can fix it for us.......huh,huh Loomis?

Couple other notes about the indicators. The 2nd or middle indicator is the most stable of the group and the one I use as the base for decision making. The others are more for confirmation or warning. I also try to stick with the smoother trading stocks or with the indexes. Low volume spiky stocks don't work as well but I guess that is true for most all trading methods.

One other small item is the HH/LL lines on my charts are just a bit different than the standard ones. I actually go in and change the eSignal formula. I will take a look at the chart Loomis posted and see if I need to give you guys that change.

I have uploaded the efs files for the adjusted HH/LL lines. They are SetAheadHH and SetAheadLL. These will alter the placement of the HH/LL lines so it is easier to see when the price bars puncture the line.

            Hi Boots...

I never posted anything for/to you before but I have to say...
...nice "BootsBox" trading tool. Very nice indeed.

I'm going to give it a spin with some other trade confirmation systems tommorrow and see how it goes. I'm looking to maximize its potential for 5 to 15 minute periods...but if the 65 minute works well...all the better!
I may add that to my "box-o-trade-tools"...and I will probably tweak it too as the day progresses. I'll let ya' know!

            FYI...
For those trying to get it to work and have blank indicator windows when they startup the "BootsBox"...make sure you put the ".efs" files in E-Signal's DOWNLOAD directory. Then it is available if you go through the menu...(ie...right click, ADD FORMULAS, DOWNLOADS)...and there they are. Simple.

            One other thing...
Boots... if you have any suggestions for the 5 to 15 minute timeframe...and the mods to deal with the latency bug of the last forming bar signal issue...the one you mentioned...it would be helpful. I may be able to snag a programmer friend of mine to help out if you still are having trouble resolving the bug.
            Lemme know.

            ....AND!....most important!!!

KUDOS!!!...for sharing it with with the E-Signal community!

            Regards,
            CiscokiDD

              Thanks CiscokiDD,

Thanks for the post and good luck with the new tool.

As for ideas about tweaking I have used the "BootBox" ( middle indicator ) for a good while and found 6 period has best fit my needs in almost all circumstances and time periods. I originally used to to trade 50 tic NQ charts.

The Diffogram can be adjusted for many different purposes and market types. I originally designed it to indicate when two MAs were moving apart from each other using a 20 and 50 MA. I found that entering trades during this expansion was usually a good move. The diffogram is also pretty good at picking turning points.

Anyhow, I do not know the best settings for it in many circumstances so would be interested in any feed back you or any other traders have.

As for the program bug, nobody has jumped on the band wagon yet so what ever can be done to fix it would be a great help to all.

              Thanks again

Last bar for which indicator and under what conditions? All of them, all the time?

Here is an idea for you (the only one I have until I hear a bit more about the problem), Use SetComputeOnClose() in the PreMain(). This will only paint the current bar once it is complete, which you say always draws the correct color. This does mean you will only get information for the current period at the close of the bar however.

I have not tried that but will. Thanks for the idea.

BTW just to make sure you know the color bars a just duplicate indicators for the ones on the chart. They make recognizing what is going on easier and faster but you can always verify it by looking at the chart and the relationship there.

This chart has just two BootBox color bars on it. One with the standard 6 bar and the other a 30 bar. Idea is to trade the 6 bar confirmed by the 30 bar. The 30 bar providing some what of a trend for the 6 bar to trade within.

Need to check it out with a much longer "trend" number than 30, maybe 100 or even longer. This would should give more tradeable triggers on the 6 bar but still keep within a trend or direction. My feeling would be the "trend" or confirmation indicator length will depend some to some degree on the time period of the chart.

Just some ideas to play with

This is another idea of a simple rule set using the indicators, or some of them. Using just the top two indicators we have an 8/100 BootsBox over an 8/34. The rule set would be to enter on the color change of the 8/100 and exit on the color change of the 8/34 or the other if it came first.

The charts show the last few days which covers some grind, chop, a trend turn and a strong trend move. Through all of this the rule set performed pretty well I would say.

Good luck and post any ideas you may have.

I tried to copy what was in the Formula Error box, but alas, it did not copy the contents, only the outer frame.

                              Hi Dave,

Don't know what .pg is. I think it should have been ach. I was trying at the time to save a picture of a workspace but it appears you can not do that, only one chart at a time. It did not have anything new in it so no need to try again. Just wanted to post something on SI but no big deal.

                                Hi, boots!

On the Diffogram, as you call it, I uploaded a chart showing how I use this indicator as an overbought/oversold indicator on the NDX daily chart, using Thomas Carr's "BTTT" 5/8 MAs. Have been using this since March. As you can see, this currently indicates a market more overbought than at any time since the March highs.
